Musicians wanted to join the *BRASS UNITED SOCIAL CLUB* (BUSC), a new international, modern and social street brass band for leisure and fun in London!
BUSC is looking for a second Susaphone (or Tuba) and a drummer/percussionist
Who are we? –
We are a street brass band based in London playing arrangements of modern popular international songs. The aim of the band is not to make profit, but to have fun and earn money through gigs, concerts, events and parties in order to finance brass band events, activities, parties, and casual social drinks.
Our band is international (5 different nationalities so far) and has been inspired by French “fanfares de rues” (Street Brass band). We created the band in December 2017 and so far we are 16 musicians between 20 and 40 yo, with an average around 28!
What are we looking for? –
Our line-up is made up of Trumpets, Trombones, Euphoniums, Saxophones alto+tenor, Flute, Sousaphones, and Drums. This means that at least 8 players are needed to play at any time, but we aim to have 17 members in the band in order to be able to perform even when some of us have other plans. So we are looking for:
– a second drummer to boost our drum&bass section and do fancy rythms (ideally playing both percussions and drumkit, but only percussion or only drumkit is fine)
– a second Susaphone player, or Tuba
– a second Flute player
What is our music style? –
We play a mix of popular, recognizable tunes arranged in a brassy, punchy way (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, etc.) + some arrangements of swingy electro-swing well-known songs (Parov Stelar, Caravan Palace, etc.). In the future it could also include brass band standards or other tunes you want to bring in
For what purpose? –
We all have jobs in London in various industries that are not music-related. The aim of the band is not to make profit, but have fun and earn money through gigs, concerts, events and parties in order to finance brass band events, activities, parties, and casual social drinks.
Where and When? –
We are all London-based. We rehearse on Thursdays after work – 8 to 10PM– near Elephant and Castle. We also have rehearsal/team building week-ends twice a year, somewhere in England. Gigs are ad hoc in the weekends or evenings in the weekdays, either on the street in busy locations, or in bars/pubs/concert halls, or at festival and other events.
So far we have played in the street in London, in a few pubs and in a festival in Cambridge. We expect to have a few gigs and festival during the coming months!
